Boise Parks and Rec Giving Free Life Jackets to Needy Kids

Boise (670 KBOI News) – Boise Parks and Recreation want to make sure that all kids can swim safely this summer, regardless of whether their parents can afford to buy them life jackets or not.

Director Doug Holloway says they’re teaming up with St. Luke’s and Boise River Sports to make it happen.

“In response to seeing a number of kids swimming in both Esther Simplot and Quinn’s Pond, that do not have a life jacket, we decided we would partner with St. Luke’s, and create a program where we could provide life jackets to those who otherwise might not be able to purchase one.”

St. Luke’s is giving Parks and Rec a $5,000 grant, and Boise River Sports is selling the jackets to the City at cost, so Holloway says it’s a win-win all around.

He says the program is meant for children from lower-income families, but they’ll never turn down a kid who needs a life jacket.
