Dry Lightning Strikes Start Several Wildfires in Southern Idaho

Boise (670 KBOI News) – It’s that time of year again, when dry lightning strikes set off wildfires wherever a dry thunderstorm rears its ugly head.

In the Boise District of the BLM, dry lightning caused seven fires in Southern Idaho.

The largest is the East White Fire, at about 1,500 acres. It’s 25 miles southeast of Bruneau, and there’s no estimate of when it might be contained.

The West Duck Fire is burning on the Duck Valley Reservation…it’s about 1,000 acres, with no estimated containment time.

The Garat Fire in the Owyhee River Wilderness is 300 acres…all the rest are less than that.

The Mile Marker 106 Fire southeast of Mountain Home burned 87 acres…it was contained today noon, and is expected to be controlled overnight. The Sub Fire was contained this afternoon, with no projected control time. It burned 42 acres.
