Our family is so excited to be back in the Treasure Valley. We lived here between 2009 and 2014 but our kids were babies so it was hard to do too much traveling. We did venture up to McCall at one point but were unable to do a ton of stuff because the kids were so young. Now it’s different!
In July we were suffering from cabin fever so we wanted to get out of the house and travel to someplace safe and close to home. We also have a small ski boat so being able to be close to a lake was important. We ended up renting a cabin through Done Right Rentals and they were fantastic. We were able to find an affordable cabin just a couple miles from downtown McCall that was spacious had a firepit and the ever-important hot tub.
The beauty that is McCall is truly indescribable. Situated on Payette Lake with beautiful mountain views our family fell in love. A lot of the small, quaint downtown area was open including cute restaurants, ice cream shops, and more. People were practicing safe, social distancing and wearing masks so you felt at ease walking around.
We launched our boat at the main launch right off the main street in McCall. People were super nice and considerate since there’s always traditional lanes for launching and take out, we enjoyed talking to fellow boaters and learning the ropes. We also rented a wave runner for an afternoon as a fun gift for my son’s birthday. If you’ve never been to Payette Lake, I highly recommend it! If you don’t own a boat, there’s plenty of rental companies that rent ski or pontoon boats. And of course, you can really catch some speed on a wave runner! The kids had so much fun! We spent two whole days of our McCall vacation on the water.
On our next to last day, my oldest and one of my twins decided we would go in search of the perfect fishing spot! You can fish right off the docks in downtown McCall or there’s upper Payette Lake. We decided to go exploring around Little Payette Lake and found a local pond to try our luck. We met a nice gentleman and his wife who call McCall their home. They gave us some great pointers on how to fish the pond. We came back the next evening and caught six trout!
There’s so much to do in and around the McCall area we are looking forward to going back at Thanksgiving so the boys can learn how to snowboard at either Brundage Mt. or Tamarack Resort. Then again there’s always Winter Carnival which we are excited to check out in early 2021.
Whether you want to golf, shop, fish, mountain bike, hike, go boating or just relax with a good book and a nice glass of wine, McCall is an incredible place to explore during our hot summer days. We planned our trip using these two websites: https://www.mccall.id.us/ and https://visitmccall.org/. Even if you’ve been one thousand times or this is your first trip, there’s so much to do and see in McCall Idaho!
