Amazon Imposter Scam
Victims receive a phone call from Amazon Fraud Dept because they are the victim of a scam
They confirm if they purchase iPhones or some other expensive items.
In some instances, the Amazon representative provides the victims with personal information, like the victim’s social security number, to prove the validity.
They have the victim log onto a banking account and take remote access to a computer.
They assist the victims with filling out a form on the computer to get rid of the charge, “accidentally” giving back too much money in the process.
To pay back the money, they instruct the victim to purchase Apple gift cards in $500 amounts.
Publishers Clearinghouse/Lottery Scam
Recent victims have lost tens of thousands of dollars, one in excess of $90,000 after receiving a phone call from Publishers Clearinghouse.
Victims were convinced they had won millions of dollars, but first, they had to pay taxes to receive their winnings.
The victims were given information of how and who to pay these taxes to with personal and cashier’s checks to being mailed to different individuals across the US.
Detectives were able to determine the victims receiving the money have also been victims of the scam as well.
