HOT HOT HOT

As triple-digit temperatures roll into the region this weekend, Dr. Nicholas Kroll, an ER physician with Saint Alphonsus, said very young children and the elderly both have very impaired responses to heat.

Dr. Kroll says as people spend more time outdoors this summer, remember to look out for things like heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Excess thirst and extreme fatigue are just some of the symptoms.

CBS2 reports Dr. Kroll said certain medications can make people more susceptible to heat illnesses such as high blood pressure medications along with the consumption of alcohol.

He also suggests limiting time under the sun, wearing sunscreen, staying cool, and most importantly staying hydrated.

And he said, if you are required to work long periods of time outside, Dr. Kroll recommends taking a water break at least every hour.
