New Homeless Veterans’ Project Approved, Despite Opposition

Boise (670 KBOI News) – The Boise City Council is giving the go-ahead to a planned housing project for homeless veterans, despite the opposition of people who live in the area.

According to the Idaho Press, it would be built near the Willow Lane Athletic Complex on State Street.

Opponents say State Street, which is a multi-lane and very high traffic road is a problem. Also on their list of concerns is the proximity to a number of bars and a strip club.

Another opponent said they had worked hard to get drug houses out of their neighborhood, and a homeless shelter would encourage drug abusers to come back.

A new neighborhood association is being formed to oppose the plan…the Council voted unanimously to approve the project.
