Eagle Island State Park

You’ll find this little gem in between Eagle and Star off Hwy 44. We’ve driven by this park a bazillion times and I’ve also seen friends post tubing pictures from the park during the winter but we have never explored the park ourselves.

Here’s what the website says about the park:
Bordered on the north and south by the Boise River, Eagle Island features a swimming beach, a grassy picnic area, and more than five miles of trails for horseback riding, hiking, or walking your dog. The waterslide opens Memorial Day weekend and is open until Labor Day. The waterslide is closed due to covid restrictions but there’s so much more to do!

If you don’t have an Idaho State Park pass, it will cost you $5 to come to spend the day. There’s plenty of parking and there’s an area to park horse trailers and even an overflow lot.
The main area of the park has clean restrooms, a gift shop, concession stand, paddleboard rental, and a ticket counter to buy waterslide passes (see the note above), ziplining passes and in the winter, Snow Hill passes for sledding. There are several big picnic shelters for larger groups and plenty of picnic tables throughout the park if you choose to pack a lunch.
There’s also a fairly big playground that is open but they are suggesting that our kiddos not play on the equipment due to covid concerns.
There’s a super nice swim beach so bring a towel and enjoy swimming, paddleboarding or kayaking!
You can fish at the other end of the little lake via a paved walking path.
There’s a zipline course that offers a variety of adventures. It closed for the season on August 15th but definitely put it on the list for next spring!
The disc golf course looks awesome and easy enough for a beginner but there are some challenging holes as well. It’s one of the better courses I’ve seen in the Treasure Valley.
To the eastern side of the park, you can still see and walk around old buildings that were previously part of a working prison farm until 1977.
We didn’t get a chance to explore all the hiking trails (there’s a lot) but we did explore the trails around the lake which made for an easy hike for our family and a new puppy!
We will definitely go back this Fall and come winter; we’ll be one of the first families in line for the Snow Hill!
